Welcome, everyone! Here’s the program for the 8th Global Investigative Journalism Conference, (#GIJC13), scheduled for October 12-15, 2013, in beautiful Rio de Janeiro. It’s the first time we’re holding the GIJC in the global south, and we’re combining it with two other key events in journalism: the annual Latin America Investigative Journalism Conference (COLPIN), and the International Congress of ABRAJI, Brazil’s investigative journalism association. Panels and workshops will be available in languages as marked: English (Eng), Portuguese (Port), Spanish (Span). Plenary and showcase panels will be translated into all three. There will be streaming video available for all plenary and showcase panels and all those held in the RDC auditorium (C1). We look forward to seeing you in Rio!

Luis Rolando Alarcón LLontop (Lima, 1968) is journalist, writer and researcher. He is master in university teaching and licensed in journalism. He has worked as correspondent of the closed newspaper The Sun of Lima, publisher of the Sunday magazine of La Industria, a newspaper of Chiclayo, and columnist of El Correo and La República, regional editions. He has gained prizes both from the journalism (for summons of the National Institute of the Consumer Defense and the Intellectual Property - Indecopi, and Save The Children-UK) and from the scientific investigation (the 2nd Regional Fair of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Regional Government of Lambayeque). He is the founding director of the Sciences of Communication Career at Señor de Sipán University from where He moves a line of investigations in right to access to public information with help of teachers and pupils. Between December 2009 to December 2011 He was the head of the National Anticorruption Network for Lambayeque Region, a Proética's initiative financed by USAID; and since March 2011, He is the Monitor of Freedom Expression of The Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS), based in Lima, Peru, and he worked for IFEX - ALC at the group of methodoly. He teachs courses of investigative journalism, and the works of his students are published at Cinco, month magazine of USS, and weekly magazine Expresion.
